Affordable housing is out of reach for many Americans.

From 2023 to 2024, approximately 770,000 people experienced homelessness in the US, the highest number since reporting began. Housing and Urban Development

Construction and demolition is a primary source of both pollution and waste.

In 2018 600 million tons of Construction and Demolition debris were generated in the United States, which is more than twice the amount of generated municipal solid waste. Environmental Protection Agency.

Frame houses have a relatively 

short life span.

 

A 50-60 year lifespan for a frame house is a reasonable estimate. A well-maintained timber frame house can extend to 100 years or more.  Demolishing a frame house typically costs between $3,000 and $25,000, or $2-$17 per square foot, according to HomeAdvisor.

Adobe is the most affordable building material available.

 

It's possible for an owner builder to build an adobe home for as little as $60 per square foot, especially if they make the adobe bricks on-site, utilizing salvaged or readily available materials.

 

Adobe minimizes waste,  pollution and cost.

 

Adobe can be used over and over, reducing cost and waste. Adobe can have a supply chain of zero, reducing or eliminating transport costs. Adobe does not require manufacturing or processing, reducing production cost and environmental impact.

Adobe houses can last for centuries.

Adobe houses, with proper maintenance can last indefinitely. Our friends and neighbors at Taos Pueblo have proven adobe homes can last at least 1000 years. Imagine building a house that could still be in your family in 35 generations!
